Thank you Baker for all of your help in making our Pennies for Patients fundraiser a success! We exceeded goal of 7,000 with a grand total of $7,511.26.
Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 28th from 4-8pm when our beloved Baker teachers will be scooping ice cream to raise money for our school! The more Baker families attend and make a purchase, the greater the percentage of sales that we make. So stop by Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy Store located at 6854 Rochester Rd. just south of South Blvd. Enjoy some ice cream or purchase your milk for the week while at the same time raising money for Baker Middle School!
Just a few reminders:
• Students should still submit a schedule card for their assigned high school even if they plan to attend the IA or plan to move. Things can change over the summer and we want to ensure classes are available for them.
• Schedule cards are due by Friday, March 17th to 8th grade History teachers.
• Teacher signatures/initials are only needed for honors/advanced classes, World Language Level 2 and beyond, and support classes. 8th grade History teachers do not need to sign for AP Human Geography. The co-requisite is Honors English 9, so technically, if they were recommended for Honors 9 English, they can take AP Human Geography.
• Counselors will return on March 24th to meet individually with students and input schedule requests. Appointment times will be posted.

Our 8th grade physical education classes were given the opportunity to learn kickboxing. Title Boxing Club of Troy, came to Baker Middle School to provide our students with the basic skills and techniques of kickboxing. If you are interested in kickboxing or would like to see what it’s all about stop by Title Boxing Club (at the corner of Long Lake and Rochester Rd), first class is free.
Kelsey Witt and Nadia Barbat did a fantastic presentation geared toward our ELD families on “Navigating the U.S. Educational System” at the PTO meeting on Feb. 27. Check it out by clicking here (It is a Powerpoint Presentation - so you must have PPT to view). It is also located on the PARENTS drop-down menu.
Lindsey Becker, 7th Grade Math Teacher at Baker Middle School was named Middle School Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Becker, who received two separate nominations, was praised for her energy and her passion to help students. She demonstrates that there are many ways to think mathematically and encourages students to understand the “why” behind a mathematical process rather than simply memorizing steps to reach the correct answer. Mrs. Becker has the courage to take risks and try new approaches and then assemble what has worked for her students into a very unique learning environment. As a parent said, “Mrs. Becker is helping our daughter develop skills she will use well beyond math class. Ally’s increased self-motivation, confidence and desire to learn is a gift that will continue to give throughout her TSD career and into her future. We are blessed to have her teaching Ally math and so much more!” Mrs. Becker’s family and colleagues were on hand as she was also presented with a $500 check from the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence.
