Baker Principal - Mr. Jonathan Cross

Dear Baker Students and Families,

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Jonathan Cross, as the new principal of Baker Middle School. Over the past 7 years as your assistant principal, I had the opportunity to become a part of our community of amazing students, parents and staff. I have great admiration for our rich school history, and I am committed to continuing the excellence that is at the heart of the Troy School District. My passion for education and support for the success of all students developed over the past 13 years in my roles as a special education teacher, dean of students, athletic director, and assistant principal. In each of my roles, I advocated for the success of all students by providing and supporting high quality instruction, meaningful connections to extracurricular activities, and access to academic supports.

My greatest achievement comes not professionally, but personally, as I am the father of 2 beautiful children, Ella (5) and JD (6 months). I owe much of my personal and professional success to my lovely wife Kara who supports my passion and provides me with the opportunity to focus a large amount of time and energy to my career. Baker is my second home and I truly believe that our students should be treated as though they are my own children. Please know that I will work tirelessly to provide your child with the best possible educational experience. It is my number one priority to ensure that they have the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and explore activities that connect with their interest and passion. Like a proud parent, I get excited when I see students actively engaged in classroom activities, scoring a winning point for their athletic team, performing during a fine arts event, or taking a risk by trying something new.

I believe in the importance of building strong community relationships that support our students. The success of an instructional program is dependent on having a strong binary partnership between a school and its community. I am committed to providing opportunities to actively engage Baker parents, our feeder families, alumni, and the entire Baker community. In the coming months there will be communications sent to you celebrating student achievement and invitations to attend various programs. Your involvement is so important. I look forward to a

great year ahead of us! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, and ideas that you would like to share.

Have a great rest of your summer!

Warm regards,

Jonathan Cross, Principal
