8th Grade Promotion/Party

Baker 8th Grade Parents,

As we plan for the end of the year 8th grade celebrations and activities, there have been ongoing discussions about this year’s format.   Over the past two years, all Troy School District middle schools moved away from the traditional in-person Promotion Ceremony, replacing it with a digital version.  The 8th Grade Party was replaced with a parade where families decorate their car and participate in a slow drive through the drop-off line to say goodbye to the school staff one last time.

While some of the recently created activities proved popular, there was a large interest in returning to the traditional in-person Promotion Ceremony and 8th Grade Party.  In an effort to meet the needs of our students and support the interest of the stakeholders in our community, the four middle schools sent out a survey asking all 8th grade families to provide feedback about the direction of our 8th grade celebration activities.

After reviewing the data and feedback from families, we identified that nearly 75% of our families are interested in returning to the traditional in-person Promotion Ceremony and 8th Grade Party.  We met as an administrative team to confirm this return with central office leadership.  I am happy to announce that we will have an in-person ceremony and 8th grade party.  We will work to create an opportunity for digital access for families that are unable to attend in-person.  We will share more information about the details regarding how this can be accessed.  Please save the dates and share this information with your family members.  I hope that this is welcomed information and we look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you and your student.
